Suggestion for a final project layout.
- This is only a suggestion! You can do your project however you would like, as long as it includes the sections shown on the layout.
Rough draft due on Tuesday, May 21st. You should have at least some of your data collected by this time!
Your final project will be due on Tuesday, June 4th.
This due date ensures that I have a chance of marking 110 projects before the end of June!
The projects will be presented in class and then moved out to the hallway and displayed on walls. Don't want your name visible? Please write your name on the BACK of your project!
Maximum size is 50cm x 50cm so that we can fit the projects in the halls!
Make sure that you:
- take PHOTOS or VIDEOS of you doing the experiment and/or collecting data. I need to have proof that you did this experiment.
Don't want to include yourself?
- include your name on a piece of paper that is present in photos / videos that you take.

Example of Proficient/Extending experiment idea:
Which handwashing liquid removes the most bacteria: hand soap, alcohol sanitizer, non-alcohol sanitizer or plain warm water? This experiment requires the student to make agar and grow bacterial colonies in a sterile setting. |
Example of Developing experiment idea:
Which is more effective at melting ice: road salt (usually NaCl) or salt alternative? This experiment is very basic, but requires some amount of set up and equipment. The science behind the results (if explained well) could take this to a Proficient level. |
Example of Emerging idea:
Any idea can be emerging if done incorrectly or incompletely. In general, an emerging experiment is very basic, and/or does not follow the controlled experiment design. For example, making a volcano with baking soda and vinegar. Adding sugar to hot water and cold water... etc... |
Here are some sample projects from past years - please note that the criteria were somewhat different in years past, so use this information only as a general guide!
Controlled Experiment - what is it?
